MAYA BAY

Puedo asegurar que esta playa es mi favorita. Desde que hace años me enamorara de ella en la película de Leonardo Dicaprio "La Playa", era el lugar que más ansiaba ir, y desde luego no me decepcionó, a pesar de las numerosas embarcaciones ancladas en la bahía.

I can ensure you that this beach is my favorite around the world. Since many years I loved her in the Leonardo DiCaprio movies "The Beach" , was the place that I would wanna go, and certainly It did't disappoint me, despite the many boats anchored in the bay.

Maya Bay es una bahía impresionante y preciosa que está resguardada por altos acantilados de 100 metros en tres de sus lados. En la bahía hay varias playas, la mayoría son pequeñas y algunas sólo existen cuando hay marea baja. La principal mide unos 200 metros de largo, y tiene suave arena blanca, peces exóticos de colores y coral de colores en sus aguas claras, toda la bahía es un gran arrecife. Maya Bay se ha convertido en la principal atracción turística de Phi Phi desde que se filmó la película de Dicarpio en 1999. Antes de la película,ya era muy popular, pero ahora gente de todo el mundo,que ni siquiera había oído hablar de Phi Phi, sin duda han oído hablar de Maya Bay.

Maya Bay is a stunningly beautiful bay that's sheltered by 100-metre high cliffs on three sides. Inside the bay there are several beaches, most are small and some only exist at low tide. The main one is around 200 metres long with silky soft white sand, underwater colourful coral and exotic fish in exceptionally clear water; the whole bay is one big reef. Maya Bay has become the main tourist attraction of Phi Phi since The Beach was filmed here in 1999. It was always very popular before the film but now people around the world who haven't even heard of Phi Phi have certainly heard of Maya Bay.

Sólo se puede visitar la bahía de Maya de noviembre a abril, ya que las olas grandes hacen peligrosa la entrada de barcos durante los otros meses del año.

You can only visit Maya Bay from November to April, as large waves make the entrance dangerous for boats during the other months of the year.

Existen diferentes playas, como he citado anteriormente, en las cuales se puede hospedar en hoteles con bungalows, pero la verdadera, la paradisíaca, podrá acceder tan solo por excursiones programadas que podrá comprar en diferentes puntos de Phuket que incluyen visitas a otras islas en una lancha rápida, o lenta según escoja.

There're different beaches, as I mentioned before, where you can stay in hotels with bungalows, but to the true place, the paradise, you only can access by excursions that you can buy in different parts of Phuket and include visits to other islands in speedboat or slowboats as you choose. Cuando miro las fotografías me muero por volver, porque recuerdo que cuando estaba ahí pensé: "Soraya mira bien, por que es único." ¿Quién no se iría ahora? Desde luego once horas de vuelo merecen la pena.

When I look at the photos I'm dying to return, because I remember when I was there I thought: "Soraya look, because it's unique." Who would't go now? Since then eleven hours of flight worthy.

Además, la playa de Maya Bay está considerada una de las diez playas más bonitas del mundo. ¿No es de extrañar no?

Furthermore, Maya Bay beach is considerec once of ten beaches more beautiful around the world. It isn't extrange not?

Recuerda que en 2004 tuvo un lugar un tsunami en Tailandia que arrasó con la costa tailandesa acabando con la vida de cientos de personas y dejando a miles de personas sin hogar. Por todo ello muchas de sus playas están señalizadas con una ruta de emergencia en caso de Tsunami.

Remember that in 2004 in Thailand a tsunami destroyed the entire cost killed the life of thousand of persons and millions of people without homes. So for that many beaches are signed with dangerous signs in emergency case.

TAILANDIA SUR: PHUKET

Es cierto que en el norte hay más lugares tropicales dignos de mencionar como Ayuthaya, pero el mundo tiene muchos sitios que mostrar.

It's true that in the tropical north are more places like Ayuthaya, but the world has many sites to show.

El sur de Tailandia es totalmente diferente al resto: los campos de arroz son sustituidos por los del caucho y las mezquitas a las pagodas. Nada más salir del aeropuerto de Phuket supe que ese lugar sin duda, sería mi favorito durante mucho tiempo, y todavía lo sigue siendo.

Southern Thailand is totally different from the rest: the rice fields are replaced by rubber and the mosques to the "pagodas". After leaving the Phuket airpot I knew without any doubt that it will be my favorite place for a long time, and it still remains so.

PHUKET
Enclavada en el mar de Andamán, en el lado occidental de la península de Malaca, Phuket es una isla de una extensión considerable, la más grande del país, que está unida al continente a través del puente Sarasin, que cruza un estrecho margen de agua. Las playas de Phuket se reparten por el poniente de la isla, mientras que la costa oriental está reservada a bancos rocosos y a los cultivos de perlas.
El principal atractivo son sus playas pero también los parques que merecen una visita.

PHUKET

Set in the Andaman Sea on the west side of the peninsula of Malaca, Phuket is an island with a considerable extension, the largest in the country, which is connected to the continent through the Sarasin bridge, that crosses a narrow margin of water. Beaches of Phuket are spread over the west of the island, and the east coast is restricted to rocky banks and pearls crops.

The main attraction are their beaches but the natural parks too.

A lo largo de la costa hay una gran diversidad de servicios hoteleros, restaurantes de todo tipo, masajistas, bares... Con gran ambiente nocturno, aunque no descontrolado, te lo pasarás genial.

Along the coast there are a lot of hotel services, restaurants of all kinds, masseurs, bars ... With lively nightlife, but not wild, you'll feel great.

ANECDOTA: Bueno la verdad es que en Phuket tengo varias anécdotas graciosas. Una está relacionada con los reptiles... pero como están por todo el país os digo que una vez de regreso a España, ya no les tengo tanto "respeto". Pero Phuket está lleno de turistas australianos, muy simpáticos, y recuerdo una noche cenando en un restaurante común y en la mesa de al lado (aproximadamente debían estar sentados unos veinte hombres) se montaban la gran juerga. En un momento de éxtasis puro tres hombres vinieron a nuestra mesa y comenzaron a charlar con nosotros, ¡por favor que risa! Les debimos caer bien por que a parte de bien comidas nos fuimos con nuestro gorro de turista.

Anecdote: It's that I have several funny anecdotes in Phuket. One is related with reptiles animals... but as they are all over the country I say you that since I return to Spain, I have more "respect" to this animals. But Phuket is full of australian tourists, very friendly, and I remember one night having dinner at a restaurant on the table common to the side (should be sitting about twenty men) they was bringing the mum of the parties. In a moment of pure ecstasy three men came to our table and started talking with us, oh my god! I think that We fall their very well because separate from having eaten very good we went with our tourist hat.

LOPBURI, la ciudad de los monos

Siguiendo nuestra ruta hacia el sur, a 155 km. al norte de Bangkok, Lopburi fue durante algunos años la capital veraniega thai. En el siglo XVII estaba considerada como la segunda capital del reino, ya que el rey Narai construyó aquí su palacio de verano, que presenta un estilo ecléctico, una mezcla de la influencia francesa, jemer y del centro de Thailandia. Entre sus espacios más llamativos destacan el templo real, las dependencias del harén, salas de audiencia, edificios administrativos y cocinas.

Continuing our route to south of Thailand, 155 km. north of Bangkok, Lopburi was for some years the Thai summer capital. In the seventeenth century it was considered the second capital of the kingdom because the king Narai built his summer palace, which an eclectic style, a mixture of French influence, jemer and from the centre of Thailand. Are precious his real temple, the dependencies of the harem, court rooms, administrative buildings and kitchens.

Entre los templos más visitados están el Phra Prang Sam Yod, llamado Templo de las tres Agujas Sagradas. Nuestro guía la llamaba “la ciudad de los monos”, ya que más que personas, los habitantes de la ciudad lo formaban los simios.

Tal y como os recomendará el guía en el caso que hagáis un viaje organizado, es mejor que dejéis todos los objetos fáciles de quitar (gafas, bolsos, pulseras, monederos) en el autocar y las cámaras bien sujetas porque muchos de los monos están entrenados para robar a los turistas, y creedme si se llevan algo, es probable que no volváis a verlo (tal y como me pasó con mi pomada). Aun así, fue un poblado que me encantó, sobre todo por la gracia de los monos y por la fachada de los templos que debido a su antigüedad están prácticamente en ruinas.

As you'll recommend a guide if you do an organized tour, it's better that you leave it yourb objects thar are easy to remove(sunglasses, bags, bracelets, purses) in the coach and hold your cameras stronger because many of the monkeys are trained to steal from tourists, and believe me, if you take something, you probably don't return to see it. But, it was a town that I loved, especially per monkeys and the front of the temples that are practically in ruins.

SUKHOTHAI

Capital mítica del primer Imperio Thai (siglo XIII al XV), Sukhothai es un tesoro arqueológico imprescindible para entender la historia tailandesa. La ciudad moderna es una sucesión de edificios sin gran interés arquitectónico, pero dentro de las murallas de la ciudad antigua están las ruinas de unos veinte wats (templos) y monasterios.

Thai mythical capital of first Empire (XIII to XV century), Sukhothai is an archaeological treasure indispensable to understand the Thai history. The modern city is a succession of buildings without architectural interest, but within the old city walls are the ruins of some twenty wats (temples) and monasteries.

En el parque de Sri Satchanalai, montando en bici para aligerar la visita, se pueden admirar todos estos wats a la vez que disfrutas de un agradable paseo. Algunos de ellos son:

CHIANG MAI

Es la segunda ciudad en importancia de Thailandia y la capital de la región norte. Situada en un valle a 700 km de la capital, Chiang Mai está repleta de templos, artesanías y montañas con coloridas tribus. Es el punto de partida para las interesantes excursiones por las selvas del norte del país.

It's the second important city of Thailand and the capital of the northern region. Located in a valley 700 km from the capital, Chiang Mai is full of temples, mountains with colorful crafts and tribes. It's the starting point for excursions through the jungles of norther of the country.

La historia de Chiang Mai es más antigua que la de Bangkok, por lo que cuenta con un tesoro artístico-cultural tan importante o más que el de la capital tailandesa. El rey Mengrai, que gobernaba un reino thai cercano a la actual Chiang Rai, conquistó el antiguo reino mon de Haripunjaya en 1292 y, seis años después, fundó su nueva capital en Chiang Mai. Invadida por los birmanos en los albores del siglo XVIII, fue recuperada por Siam en 1796.

Chiang Mai history is much older than Bangkok, so it has an artistic and cultural treasure as important or more than the Thai capital .The king Mengrai, who ruled a thai kingdom near the present Chiang Rai, conquered the ancient kingdom of Mon Haripunjaya in 1292 and, six years later, he founded his new capital in Chiang Mai. Invaded by burmese people in the early XVIII century, was recovered by Siam in 1796.

Se pueden visitar campos de adiestramiento de elefantes como el de Mae Tan Man, participar en el espectáculo y darse un paseo por la selva con ellos. Las penas y las verguenzas se dejan en casa, así que animaos a participar en el show como hicimos mi padre y yo, el recuerdo lo vale y pasaréis un momento divertido.

You can visit elephant training camps like Mae Tan Man, participate in the show and take a walk through to the jungle with them. Pains and shames are left at home, so I encourage you to participate in the show as did my father and me, you'll have a great memory of it and you will pass a funny time. Después del show, en parejas, daréis un paseo de duración aproximada una hora por la selva subidos a un elefante (aplicaos repelente de mosquitos). Tras el relajante paseo y cerca del campo de entrenamiento de los elefantes, podemos dar un paseo en balsa de bambú por el río Mae Ta Man. Fue muy divertido, ya que más de uno, si no obedecía las ordenes del lugar para sentarse, acababa con el trasero empapado.

After the show, in pairs, you'll give a ride in the jungle uploaded to an elephant (you must put mosquito repellent) during approximately one hour. After the relaxing ride and near the elephant camp,we can take a bamboo raft ride down the river Mae Ta Man. It was very fun, with more than one, if they don't obeyed the orders of the place to sit, they finish with their wett ass.Sin duda un gran día.
